Sundowns to face Double Action in CAF Women’s Champs Lge COSAFA qualifier final

The representative from the COSAFA region in this season’s CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023 will be decided between Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Botswana’s Double Action Ladies on Friday.
This after the two sides secured their respective places in the finals of the regional tournament that serves as a gateway to Africa’s premier women’s club competition set to take place in Cote d’Ivoire between 05 – 19 November this year
The confirmed fixture for the final means the region will have new champions this year after Zambia’s Green Buffaloes were knocked out by Mamelodi Sundowns with a 3-1 scoreline at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.
In a repeat of last season’s final, Buffaloes took an early lead thanks to a wonder strike by Maylan Mulenga in the 11th minute – a lead that lasted for a few minutes as Sundowns captain, Zanele Nhlapho levelled matters for the former champions.
Soon thereafter, the lively Chuene Morifi found her second goal of the tournament before Tiisetso Makhubela put the cherry on top to see the former African champions go through to the finals.
Earlier in the day, Double Action Ladies were equally led by their captain, Philimon Makwengwe who found the back of the net in both halves to spearhead a 2-0 victory over Mozambique’s Costa Do Sol – a result that sees the Botswana side through to their first ever COSAFA Women’s Champions League final, having fallen short in the previous two occasions.
Costa do Sol will take on Buffaloes in the 3rd/4th place play-off at 10h00 GMT on Friday in a match that will precede the marquee fixture of the tournament between Double Action Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns at 13h00 GMT.
Both fixtures will take place at the Sugar Ray Stadium and can be viewed live on broadcast channel, SuperSport.
