Al Ahly defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim has paid homage to Al Ahly fans for their support at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Sunday night as they reclaimed the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League title.

Abdelmoneim scored the vital equalizer that earned Ahly a 1-1 draw in Casablanca to clinch the title with a 3-2 aggregate score. The Egyptian international was duly named man of the match for his performance against the Red Castle at their backyard.

“We are delighted to win the title. I want to thank the Egyptian fans who made their way here and moved us with their support throughout the match,” stated Abdelmoneim.

He was delighted to have finally played the final, having missed last season’s 2-0 defeat to Wydad at the same venue due to injury.

The defender says that the victory in Wydad underlines Ahly’s stature as one of the biggest clubs in the Continent.

“We are a big club and we always play under pressure. We showed that tonight with a good performance,” he added.

Ahly will now look to add more history in their next continental assignment, the CAF Super Cup, when they take on TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup champions USM Alger later in the year. They are the most successful team in the one-off match, with eight titles.
